5 Things: Urban Tattoo Convention at Industry City & Hitchcock’s ‘The Lodger’ at BAM

1. Celebrate Tattoo Artists! Head over to Industry city today for The Urban Tattoo Convention! UTC is the only organization in America designed to serve as a platform for tattooists of diverse ethnicities to showcase their wide variety of talent and artistic skill. UTC was founded in 2009 by Al Fliction, a Brooklyn-based tattooist who had experienced segregation within the tattoo industry and at various tattoo conventions around the nation. UTC gives extremely talented tattooists a chance to showcase their skills, affording them the opportunity to expand their network, gain recognition amongst their peers and to tattoo new body canvases who share the love of tattoo collecting. 2. Get Hitchcocked! Catch “The Lodger,” directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1926, at BAM. In what the director himself described as “the first true Hitchcock movie,” matinee idol Ivor Novello was cast against type as a Jack the Ripper-like serial killer who stalks London for his next blonde victims. Filmed with an appropriately expressionist eye, “The Lodger” boasts a particularly inventive scene that has Hitch shooting the killer’s nervously paced footsteps through a plate-glass floor. Live music accompaniment by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra. BAM Harvey Theater, 7:30 p.m., $25. 

3. Hang with nature. Don’t miss the Pop-Up Audobon at Audobon Center at Prospect Park at 12 p.m. today. Pop-Up Audubon is a new interactive activity through the Audubon Center that allows you to directly engage with nature throughoutdoor learning adventures in the park. Each month, this program will dissect a different ecosystem. Audubon Center, Prospect Park, 12 p.m., free.

Take a historic tour. Enjoy a history lesson during LEFFERTS HISTORIC HOUSE: 2nd FLOOR TOURS. View significant artifacts from 19th century family life and walk into a fully furnished 1820s bedroom. Also view a new exhibit about the Lefferts family genealogy. The exhibit features a family tree and rare objects from the museum collection that tell the story of notable Lefferts family members. Tours every half hour starting at 1 p.m. Suggested donation is $3 for adults and free for children 16 and under. Lefferts Historic House at Prospect Park, 1 p.m., $3 donation.

5. Make and taste beer! Calling all beer brewers: Buy tickets forYeast Class Lecture & Tasting and learn how to make your own summer suds! Brewers make wort. Yeast makes beer. This yeast class and tasting will delve deeply into the world of the beer drinker’s favorite microorganism. The yeast lecture will cover a history of yeast as it pertains to brewing; yeast nutrition, growth and chemical pathways that effect home brewers; how to choose and maintain a happy yeast culture in your home brew, how strain selection impacts beer flavor and more!
