5 Things: Painters, Working Out, Beer for Transit, Found Photos

What you need to know pre-coffee.

1.  Japanese artist Naoki Nakayama says, "I paint precisely because my own (thoughts) cannot be expressed in words, and I hope to draw the chaotic images in my mind. My paintings do not begin as concepts, but rather develop them once the meaning has been distilled from the completed work. However, I aim to give my works the feeling of poison turned to medicine, and I hope to master my use of illusions to this end."

3. Special Exhibit: John Singer Sargent Watercolors. This landmark exhibition provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity to see Sargent's stunning watercolors from the collections of both the MFA, Boston, and the Brooklyn Museum. A special section of the show will explore new discoveries about the artist's technique made during exhaustive studies conducted by conservators at the two museums.

The exhibition runs through July 28.

4. Beer for Better Transit: Riders Alliance Happy Hour @ Branded Saloon. Bring a friend to Branded on Tuesday, April 16th at 7 p.m. to rub elbows with like-minded neighbors, make new friends, and learn about how you can support grassroots campaigns to win better subway and bus service.

5. All I Want is a Photograph @ The Way Station. The challenge, this time presented to both musicians and writers, is to write a song or story about a found photograph. The photo must be found, i.e., anonymous and completely random, perhaps discovered in a thrift store, an old book, the street, etc. The photos will be scanned and shown on the screen behind the stage while each person is performing.
