and Creative Movement, Ages 1-4 Uhuru (the kiswahili word for “freedom”) is designed to help children develop motor coordination, increase spatial and rhythmic awareness, and provide a positive learning experience.
Sunday 10:30-11:30am - Drumming4Toddlers! with Brother Kojo (Ages 2-5) A unique African percussion class designed to get children excited about and familiar with the Djembe drum and is rhythms.
Ages 5-7
Tuesday, 4:30pm-5:30pm - Dance, Drum & Song with M’Bemba Bangoura Learn the exhilarating steps and rhythms of West African dance from premier Guinean drummer/dancer M’Bemba Bangoura.
Thursday 4:30pm-5:30pm - African to Hip Hop with Steffanie Burchette Journey through the incredible world of African and diaspora dance, from traditional African dances all the way to today’s salsa, hip hop and jazz
Saturday 10:00am-11:00am - Good Boogie with Lisa Green Children will have a blast exploring movement and dancing to R&B, hip hop and other ‘gotta-dance’ popular music!

Wednesday 4:15pm-5:15pm - African to Hip Hop with Funmilayo Chesney Journey through the incredible world of African and diaspora dance, from traditional African dances all the way to today’s salsa, hip hop and jazz. A master dance instructor for 20 years, Funmilayo is the founder of Fusha Dance Company.
Friday 4:00pm-5:30pm - Sawubona: African Fusion with Jamie Philbert In Sawubona (a South African greeting meaning “I see you”), students will create their own dances using creative movement, performance techniques and visual arts. Jamie Philbert, founder of Echoes Dance Company, will guide the group in developing and presenting their ideas.
Saturday 3:00pm-4:00pm - Percussion Explosion with Kenny Anderson Explore rhythms from Cuba, Brazil, West Africa and New Orleans with Kenny Anderson, who has worked with some of the best musicians from around the globe.
Ages 8-11
Monday 4:30pm-5:30pm - West African Dance & Drum with Vado Diomande Learn the exhilarating steps and rhythms of West African dance from master dancer and drummer Vado Diomande, who served as a principal dancer for the Ballet National
de Cote d’Ivoire.
Thursday 4:30pm-5:30pm - Hip Hop with Roger G Bust a move with a pro from the street. Roger G., who danced in Michael Jackson’s “Bad” video, will break down different hip hop styles like popping and locking, breaking, and street jazz.
Sunday 3:30pm-4:30pm - Rhythms of Brazil with Carlos de Oliveira, Ages 8-14 Learn the rhythms of Brazil with Carlos de Oliveira, founder of the New York Samba School.
Ages 10-14
Thursday 5:00pm-6:00pm - Haitian Drum with Morgan Zwerlein, Ages 10-14 Learn how to play powerful drum rhythms from Haiti with Morgan Zwerlein.
Saturday 11:00am-12:00pm - Stepping with Sduduzo Ka-Mbili Learn the original stepping dance – the exhilarating gumboot dance from South Africa – with the founder of South African dance troupe Juxtapower.
Saturday 3:30pm-4:30pm - Capoeira with Gafanhoto Ribe Kids love capoeira, which combines dance, martial arts and music, because it is fun, acrobatic and challenging!
Sunday 3:30pm-4:30pm - Rhythms of Brazil with Carlos de Oliveira, Ages 8-14 Kids will play a range of instruments: the pandeiro (like the tambourine), agogo (bells), congas, and more.
Ages 13-18
Tuesday 5:00pm-6:00pm - Salsa Dance Mix with Cynthia La China Learn the fancy footwork and fun spins of salsa, merengue and more.
Wednesday 5:30pm-6:30pm - Hip Hop and Roots with Funmilayo Chesney Learn old-school to new-school, as well as moves from styles that influenced Hip Hop like Funk, Mambo, and African.
