​Imagine you are dancing your booty off with other people, radiating love towards yourself, each other, and all beings everywhere, with music that’s specifically created for this purpose. You can feel the room pulsing with love, and you feel happy. Welcome to a Mettā Dance Party.
​​This event brings together loving-kindness meditation (mettā) and dance. ​Loving kindness, or mettā, is a meditation technique where you intentionally cultivate positive, happy, loving thoughts and feelings: thoughts of good will towards yourself and others, feelings of happiness, unconditional love, joy, and care.
<blockquote>​“The metta dance party was freakin’ wonderful. I found it so fun, and so powerful to come together with the shared intention to both dance and be more loving.” </blockquote>
​While you can practice loving kindness in formal seated meditation, you can also practice it while moving your body, dancing to excellent music, in the company of friends, loved ones, and friendly strangers.
​​The event will begin with an introduction to loving-kindness practice, with a talk and seated guided meditation. From there, we’ll transition into practicing loving kindness while dancing to trance, deep house, and other dance music that’s specifically created for practicing loving-kindness dancing.

<ul><li>​What if I’ve never practiced loving kindness before? No problem! This event will introduce you to the formal practice of loving-kindness, with a talk and guided meditation.</li><li>​Is this an Ecstatic Dance? No, this is not. While many people outwardly dance similarly to an Ecstatic dance, everyone at a Mettā Dance Party is holding the intention to practice love while they dance. Inwardly, we are sending love to ourselves, our loved ones, and all beings. </li><li>​What does it cost? This event is offered in the spirit of generosity. It is a pay-what-you-can, by donation event. The suggested donation is $25.</li><li>​What should I know about this practice space? This event is a devoted time to joyfully cultivate love together. Talking and conversation can be distracting for those that are practicing mettā and cultivating love. If you would like to have a conversation with someone at the event, we ask you to move to a different room, away from the dancing. There will be a dedicated space for doing so and we invite you to cultivate love through connection and conversation there if that feels good!</li><li>​What should I wear? There are no dress code requirements. We want you to be comfortable, so wear clothes you will be comfortable moving and dancing in!</li><li>​Who’s hosting this event? This event is led and organized by Tasshin, Bee Eye, and the <a href="https://tasshin.com/love/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Love Department</a> of The Service Guild.</li><li>​What’s the drug and alcohol policy? This will be a drug and alcohol-free event.</li><li>​Who can come to this event? There are no age requirements or restrictions.</li><li>​Do I have to sit on meditation cushions? No, we will have chairs available for those that would like to use a chair for the seated portion of the event.</li></ul>

Tailored to the very early walkers, ages 18-24 months, Sail Away, is a mobile exploration experience that theatrically explores a day at the beach. This delightful first-time theatrical play experience includes flying seagulls, peek-a-boo sea creatures, toy boats, live music, dancing and so much more.
Conceived and written by Mara McEwin, with choreography by Rathi Varma, original music by Mario Giacalone, Sail Away explores the magnificence of the ocean through a fully immersive sensory experiential journey of visuals, sounds, objects, some language, and an open concept of play. <a href="https://www.chfgma.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Clinton Hill Fort Greene Mutual Aid</a> is holding its first annual People Power Picnic on Saturday, May 18th, from 2-5pm, in Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn, NY. The event will feature homemade, pot-luck style food and beverages, prepared with care by community volunteers, and local (world famous) DJs: <a href="https://www.stjamesjoy.com/about" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Saint James Joy</a>, the duo behind Clinton Hill’s hottest block party, and Grammy-winning Latin Artist <a href="https://www.instagram.com/cheopardo/?hl=en" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Cheo Pardo</a>. All are invited to attend, and food and drinks are donation-based: whether that is $0.50 or $50 per plate, any amount is welcome.
The picnic aims to raise funds for Clinton Hill Fort Greene Mutual Aid (CHFGMA)’s Grocery and Essentials Fund, one of New York City’s only mutual aid-based, direct cash assistance programs. The Fund currently offers a monthly stipend of $50 to individuals or $100 to households, intended to support the purchase of groceries, hygiene products and other essentials. As a complement to CHFGMA’s weekly food distribution pantries and facilitation of direct neighbor-to-neighbor mutual aid, the Grocery and Essentials Fund offers a flexible solution for neighbors who are not able to attend food distributions, or need access to specific foods that meet their health and cultural needs.
Financial decisions regarding Fund management are made collectively at town halls or through outreach, by everyone - whether they are past donors, recipients or both. 
Since inception, the Fund has distributed $800,000 for 8,000 requests - but now, the Fund needs community support. The necessity for food assistance has continued to grow with inflation and rising food costs. For the Fund to meet the current level of need, CHFGMA would have to raise $17,000 every month, compared to the roughly $5,600 per month the Fund currently collects. In April, the Fund cut distributions in half, and in May, no distributions will be made at all.
The last time CHFGMA paused distributions, in the fall of 2021, re-engaging our neighbors helped to re-establish the Fund and restart distributions. That’s the plan for the People Power Picnic. More than that, we want to have fun in our beautiful Fort Greene oasis and continue to build community in our great neighborhood.

<blockquote><a href="https://christiansciencebrooklyn.org" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"></a>“Loving others, including those who may feel like enemies, can sometimes feel impossible," says international speaker,&nbsp;Giulia Nesi Tetreau. As a&nbsp;practitioner of Christian Science healing she has seen from her practice and her own personal&nbsp;experience how&nbsp;loving your enemy is not only possible, it is natural.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Her talk, “Learning to Love Your Enemies,”&nbsp;focuses on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible and explained in the book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Tetreau illustrates how these precepts, when understood and applied, can bring wonderful results. "Answering Christ Jesus’ call to ‘love your enemies," she says,"will&nbsp;replace anger, hurt, and injustice with forgiveness, freedom, and peace.” 

The talk is free and open to all. It's hosted by First Church of Christ, Scientist in Brooklyn. The talk will be held&nbsp; at 352 Flatbush&nbsp;just on the other side of Union Market.&nbsp;It will be the&nbsp;temporary Reading Room space for a year while the present one is being&nbsp;renovated.</blockquote>
