Young Minds Day Care Center to Close

Clinton Hill facility currently hosting 62 children will shutter in September due to loss of funding.

The board of on Fulton Street has decided to shut its doors after 30 years serving Clinton Hill children, according to the center's director, Carol Mills.

"Right now, there's no way we can continue running with no money coming in through the doors," Mills said.

According to Mills, the closure is the result of planned budget cuts by Mayor Michael Bloomberg totaling $170 million across the five boroughs.

This week, Councilwoman Letitia James, D-Fort Greene, announced her intentions to join to restore funding to daycare, Head Start and afterschool programs.

But Mills seemed doubtful there was any way to save Young Minds, which currently serves 62 children—down from 110 just five years ago.

"It doesn't look good," she said.

A rally is scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. Friday outside the center at 972 Fulton St.
