UPDATE: Rat-Proof Trash Cans To Arrive In Fort Greene
Housing development first in the nabe to get the containers courtesy of Forest City Ratner and the office of Councilwoman Letitia James.
For a few lucky Fort Greene residents dealing with a rise in the rat population—which may or may not be tied to Atlantic Yards construction—help is on its way.
According to Letitia James, D-Brooklyn, 150 heavy-duty rat resident trashcans will be distrubuted for the residents of S. Oxford Homes.
The 141-unit housing development is located a short distance away from the rising Barclays Center project between Atlantic Avenue and Fulton Street.
James pushed for the receptacles during a Sept. 22 Atlantic Yards Cabinet meeting with a representative of developer Forest City Ratner, community leaders and other "stakeholders" affected by the massive construction project.
The trashcans may be distributed as early as this weekend, James said.

Still no date scheduled for the trash can giveaway, though a staffer at Tish James' office said it would be soon. Stay tuned.
