The Early Word: Congrats, Camille Yorrick

Local music producer proves it's enough to be nominated.

1. With news Saturday of the sudden death of Whitney Houston, it was a tragic weekend for many music lovers. But at last night's Grammy Awards presentation—which included a musical tribute to the power of Houston's legendary voice by Jennifer Hudson—there were at least a few good developments. That list included the nomination of Fort Greene music producer Camille Yorrick for her work on Beyonce's "I am... World" TV special. And though Yorrick didn't take home a trophy, it goes without saying that we're all really proud of our very own Brooklyn emissary to Hollywood. Congrats, Camille!

2. Author Susan Cain, an expert on introversion and shyness, discusses her new book, "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking." Greenlight Bookstore, 686 Fulton St. 7:30 p.m.

3. With an emphasis on allowing practitioners to go at their own pace, this is a donation-based yoga class, right here in our own backyard. Brooklyn Free School, 372 Clinton Ave. 6:45 p.m.

4. An early jazz, swing, and blues band, The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn play a repertoire of witty songs from 1920s and 30s along with their original works. Chez Oskar, 211 Dekalb Ave. 8 p.m.

5. Alternate side parking rules are suspended today in observance of President's Day. Parking meters must still be paid.

There is another Fort Greene resident who was up for a Grammy last night for Best Latin Pop, Rock, Or Urban Album: José Luis Pardo, guitarist and composer from Los Amigos Invisibles, the world-renowned Venezuelan band whose members currently reside in Brooklyn and Miami. The band previously won a Latin Grammy in 2010 for Best Group. They are playing locally on March 9th, 2012 at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, 66 North 6th Street.
