The Beer (Finally) Comes to the Bike Shop

Red Lantern Bicycles now serving alcohol.

on a quickly rebounding section of Myrtle Avenue in Fort Greene, finally brought the suds to their bicycles-and-beer business model this week.

Gothamist had the scoop Thursday that the store owned by Brooklynite Brian Gluck had "broken the liquor license barrier" to become perhaps the first bike shop to serve beer and wine to waiting customers.

According to Gothamist, Gluck had to install a partition between the bar area and the store floor—which at our last visit in February was not there—as well as close at 11 p.m. and not hire a bouncer.

In the story, the former co-owner of Brooklyn Bike and Board in Prospect Heights was clear that his bike shop would not be a bar—and that drinking and biking was definitely not okay.

"We're really sensitive to people drinking and driving, that's something we're paying extra close attention to," he said.
