Reed Named New Prez of Downtown Brooklyn Partnership

The organization has named a successor to Joe Chan, who left the group in September.

Tucker Reed, Director of Special Projects for Two Trees Management Company, has been named president of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, according to the DBP’s Board of Directors.

In September, former president Joe Chan left the position to become vice president at Empire State Development, which oversees New York City’s biggest construction projects (such as Atlantic Yards). Families United for Racial and Economic Equality, a local activist group, made waves in October when they demanded that community groups be consulted during the search for Chan’s successor.

Reed, 31, a Wesleyan graduate, formerly worked for the State Department in Baghdad, Iraq and served as Chief of Staff of the Baghdad Provincial Reconstruction Team. He was also the founding Executive Director of the DUMBO Improvement District and was a Senior Policy Advisor for the Department of Small Business Services.

“Tucker is well positioned to lead the Partnership and the ongoing transformation of Downtown Brooklyn as it continues to seek new investment, create jobs and prepare the area for an even greater influx of new residents,” said Alan Fishman, co-chairman of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership’s Board of Directors, in a statement.

The DBP has overseen the redevelopment of Downtown Brooklyn for the past six years, serving as a link between residents, developers and business. As president, Reed will handle the organization’s $6.7 million budget, and will be in charge of attracting new investment opportunities to Downtown, the city’s third-largest business district. The group also oversees management of the MetroTech BID, the Fulton Mall Improvement Association and Court-Livingston-Schermerhorn BID.
