Jennifer Egan to Debut Latest Work—Via Twitter

Fort Greene writer to publish story in a series of tweets starting tonight.

Jennifer Egan is ready to take on the publishing world again—this time, in burst of 140 characters or less.

The Pulitzer Prize winning author of "Tales From the Goon Squad" will publish the entirety of an as-yet unpublished sci-fi story via a series of tweets on the New Yorker's Fiction Twitter page.

Egan told the magazine that she wrote the story, "Black Box," specifically for Twitter to be followed by readers on laptops, smartphones and other electronic devices.

"This is not a new idea, of course, but it’s a rich one—because of the intimacy of reaching people through their phones, and because of the odd poetry that can happen in a 140 characters," Egan said.

The story—which will be published in full in the New Yorker coming out Monday—will be tweeted in 10 nightly installments starting Thursday at 8 p.m.
