Jan. 13: Bloomberg Vows to Fight For Minumum Wage Hike

Says he will work with Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to push for increase.

 

1. Echoing calls made by local pols such as Councilwoman Letitia James, D-Brooklyn, and District Leader Lincoln Restler, among others, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in his State of the City speech that he would fight for legislation in Albany to increase the state's minimum wage from its current $7.25. "Right now, I believe, we are slightly out of balance. The genius of the free market is not always perfect," Bloomberg said. "Two of our neighbors—Connecticut and Massachusetts—have raised their minimum wage above the Federal standard to address higher costs of living."

2. The Panel for Education Policy will meet on Jan. 18 at 6 a.m. at Brooklyn Tech. Among the items on the agenda will be the proposed co-location of Community Roots Charter School with P.S. 287—the subject of a contentious hearing between parents of both schools on Wednesday.
