Iron Gate Thieves Strike Again

Months after rash of crimes, another antique entryway stolen in Fort Greene.

Fort Greene-Clinton Hill property owners who thought it was finally safe to unpadlock their distinctively-Brooklyn wrought iron gates... think again.

Months after police arrested thieves suspected in a rash of iron gate robberies in Clinton Hill, another incident occurred last Thursday at a residence on Vanderbilt Avenue near Park Avenue in Fort Greene, police said.

According to police, the homeowner discovered his heavy metal gate stolen on Feb. 16 at 9:30 p.m. Police said that the gate was worth over $1,000.

Last summer, police arrested Mario Thornton, 45, and Charles Robinson, 46, for allegedly stealing five gates from Clinton Hill residences from May 18 to 23.

Geesh! It's bad enough we have to tie down our garbage containers! Now we have to tie chains around our gates, too! Is anything sacred in this City?
