Hanson Dry Latest Addition to Changing Fulton

A hip new bar is another sign that Fulton Street is quickly transforming.

A trendy new bar that would not be out of place in Williamsburg is the latest sign of the rapidly changing stretch of Fulton Street in Clinton Hill.

Hanson Dry, with its antique cash registers slanted mirrors, looks like a throwback to classy lounge spots of the 1950s.

Located between Waverly St. and Washington Ave., the bar opened last month — making it the latest high-profile opening on a street that has hosted several in the past few months including Fulton Grand, Hill Café, Mago Creperie, and .

"It's a lounge first, but it's also a great spot to bring a date to, something which there isn't enough of in the area," said Chris Buckley, one of the owners of Hanson Dry.

"We just wanted to create a spot where people could come and feel comfortable."

The bar, which is named after the dry cleaners that used to occupy the space, is a reflection of a quickly changing Fulton Street.

"Entrepreneurs are really recognizing the substantial audience that are just a few feet away on Fulton Street," said Phillip Kellog, the manager of the Fulton Street Business Improvement District. "There is a lot of excitement and a lot of interest."

Buckley said that new arrivals to the neighborhood — which the census recently revealed are coming in astonishing numbers — love Hanson Dry.

"We felt this was a good risk because the areas surrounding the bar are largely residential with a younger population,"  said Buckley. "We've also been meeting a lot of residents in the neighborhood who have been here for less than a year and are thrilled that all these new places are opening up that weren't here when they first moved."

Hanson Dry, whose owners have ties to several Brooklyn bars including Soda Bar and Franklin Park, will have eight beers on tap and a selection of high-end bottles of wine, in addition to several specialty cocktails including "The Hanson Dry" (gin martini with bitters and Licor 43) and "The Adopted" (a blend of dry gin and peppered vodka). In addition, the bar has an enclosed backyard perfect for when the weather turns warmer.

"The response has been pretty overwhelmingly positive so far," said Buckley. "We've had everyone from Pratt students to local business owners drop in, so it's great we've been able to have such a wide range of people enjoy the place."
