Fort Greene Marks 9/11 Anniversary With Music, Community
The Irondale Center's concert attracted a packed house.
held a special community concert today to honor the victims of Sept. 11 and those who volunteered during its aftermath.
The concert was a combination of singing, dancing, and instrumental numbers all created to commemorate 9/11.
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Councilwoman Leticia James, D-Brooklyn, were both present for the concert and both spoke a few words before the concert began. James later added, "It was a wonderful performance."

Multiple groups participated in the concert, which drew a packed audience. Performers included the Noel Pointer Foundation, the Brooklyn Music School, the Brooklyn String Quartet, Spoke Hub Dance, and pianist Anton Batagov.
The concert was presented by both The Irondale Center and the "Pieces of Paper Project," a multi-pronged production that included an exhibit and by Sept. 11 volunteer Michael Simon Hall.

"This is really my way of commending and acknowledging all the work that the volunteers did," Hall said.
The project consists of a theater piece, which could not be performed today due to financial restrictions, and an art installation of actual signs and pieces of paper used by volunteers after Sept. 11.
It also features a video of interviews with 9/11 volunteers, which was shown at the end of the concert.
