Demolition Continues at Corner Lot Opposite BAM

Fate of former apartment building remains uncertain.

Crews continued to make progress on the demolition of a four-story apartment building at the corner of Lafayette Avenue and St. Felix Street on Friday.

The brick structure at 37 Lafayette Ave. has been almost completely dismantled, with a portion of the second-floor exposed and visible from the street.

Located across the street from the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the 2,150-square-foot lot had been rumored to be the site of a 56-room boutique hotel.

According to Brownstoner, demolition of the building was due to hazardous structural conditions and not to make way for a new hotel.

The property was last sold in 2007 for $3,400,000, according to PropertyShark.
